Babes-Bolyai University is a Romanian comprehensive and advanced research public institution aiming to promote and sustain the development of specific cultural components within the local, regional, national and international community. These components are: a permanent and innovative learning culture; a culture for an active attitude and participation; multiculturalism, intercultural dialogue and collaboration between different religions; a culture for personal development; an action culture based on systematic and innovative knowledge; a culture for integration in diversity and for globalization, in terms of respecting the identity and reciprocity; a culture for personal and moral development.

The Babeș-Bolyai University is today the oldest, the largest and, in many ways, the most prestigious university in Romania. The institution has clear history which falls under the Renaissance period and was born under the distinct sign of multiculturalism. The linguistic and cultural diversity are defining elements of UBB, representing the specific which distinguishes not only among Romanian universities, but also within the European context.

In the confined family of multilingual and multicultural universities in Europe, the Babeş-Bolyai University becomes specific through the fact that in its Carta, has set up lines of study in Romanian, Hungarian and German, and they have their own representation and autonomy of decision at any level. This multicultural structure also reflects in the post graduate programs, as well as in the network of the 12 university extensions in Transylvania.

BBU’s scientific research strategy aims, first and foremost, to increase the national and international prestige of the university, based on significant contributions to the development of its knowledge and infrastructure, consistently promoting cross- and multi-disciplinary research.
